A cluster of ten sporting venues in Barra da Tijuca, originally called the City of Sports Complex. Large portions have been abandoned and off-limits to tourists since the conclusion of the 2016 Rio Olympics. The center was built on the site of the former Nelson Piquet International Autodrome which was demolished in 2012 (21). While the track had coexisted with the community of Vila Autódromo (for which it was named), this slum was demolished in a violent form to build the new park. The site was intended to be repurposed after the close of the games to become the Olympic Training Center, a sports training facility operated by the Brazilian Ministry of Sports. This did not happen as planned although several venues are still in use.
